Saint Jean de Monts and St-Hilaire de Riez stretch along the ocean with their long, beautiful sandy beaches.

From the L’Acapulco campsite, you can walk to Plage des Mouettes, a supervised beach in July and August, but don’t hesitate to try out the popular Plage des Demoiselles or Plage de la Baigneuse opposite the pedestrian street.

From Le Château campsite, you can cycle to Riez beach through the Saint Hilaire de Riez national forest.
The large beach at Sion is also a pleasant alternative, with its nautical base, beach club and beach library.

During your stay in Saint Jean de Monts and Saint Hilaire de Riez, don’t miss the opportunity to stroll along the magnificent rocky coastline of Sion and its five pineaux. This not-to-be-missed walk will take you to the charming town of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie. Along the way, you can admire the superb villas built along the seafront, witnesses of seaside architecture from another era…

Unusual walks in Vendée

Canoe trip in the marshes, the Salt Route

Accompanied by a guide, discover the marshes of Sallertaine (former island) in less than 2 hours, or much longer depending on the package.
I like the possibility of a bivouac (for lovers) or the evening formula (fun with friends). The Route du Sel is a must-see walk during your stay in Vendée.

Take the opportunity to visit the artisan village of Sallertaine and take home a souvenir made on the spot (100% responsible purchasing) by a jewelry designer, a leatherworker, a glassblower and others.

A bike-rail escapade

Discover a picturesque and fun mode of transport. Suitable for the whole family, the Commequiers velo-rail is located between Challans and Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.

A ride in the countryside with friends or family, on a horse-drawn carriage for up to 5 people. You’ll discover a typical landscape, where you can picnic, etc. for a walk of around 2 hours.

Beware, though, as the route is quite challenging, with a 20 km round trip.

Visit the salt marshes

When you choose our campsite in St Hilaire de Riez, you’ll be close to the salt marshes, where you can admire the work of the salt worker – an unusual and instructive visit. Regional products are available on site. The salt marshes are a unique opportunity to discover an atypical landscape and culture.

Sallertaine

Discover Sallertaine, the jewel of the Vendée, enchanted by its unique atmosphere. Renowned for its arts and crafts, the town is a haven of peace, with cobbled streets, ancient churches and local artisan stores.

Visit a mill near Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez

The Vendée wouldn’t be the Vendée without its mills.

Close to our campsite in Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, I recommend the Moulin des Gourmands in St Révérand, where you can visit the mill as well as enjoy a fun trail and labyrinth. Don’t forget the tasting, and don’t forget to bring back your own flour made on the spot.

If you took advantage of my previous tips to visit Sallertaine, on the way you can stop off at Moulin de Rairé, which produces organic flour.
